Legal notice - CSIRO Scientists in Schools program
Scientists in Schools incorporates the sub-program Mathematicians in Schools
For CSIRO and you to actively participate in the Scientists in Schools program, it is important that the CSIRO Scientists in Schools team collects personal information from you so that we may better manage and operate the program, create partnership(s), and provide benefits to all program participants and funding organisations.
We may need to disclose your personal information that you provide now, or during the course of your participation in the program, in the following circumstances:
- to match you with your partner;
- reporting to organisations who fund the program as part of contractual reporting or evaluation purposes;
- informing your organisation or institution that you are participating in Scientists in Schools
- informing our approved researchers as part of the formal evaluation of the Scientists in Schools program,
- publicising stories arising out of the Scientists in Schools program; and
- when we are legally required to provide personal information to a third party.
Your use of the e-mail list
Once you are partnered through the Scientists in Schools program you will have the option of accessing the Scientists in Schools e-mail list. The e-mail list enables participants to share stories, materials and learnings arising from their participation in the program, which may be used for personal and non-commercial educational purposes.
If you do sign up for the e-mail list, it is important that you be aware of the following specific terms governing your use of the e-mail list. If you fail to comply with these terms and conditions, you may be removed from the email list or may have your rights to post to the list withdrawn at the sole discretion of the CSIRO Scientists in Schools team.
Supervision of the e-mail list
The CSIRO Scientists in Schools team do not supervise or moderate the Scientists in Schools email list. Messages posted to the Scientists in Schools email list are not endorsed or approved by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and do not represent its opinions. The information you use or post on the e-mail list is at your own risk.
Content of postings
Any information or materials that you post on the e-mail list must not:
- Be false, misleading or deceptive;
- Be defamatory, libellous, threatening, abusive or harassing;
- Be obscene or contain any material that is in any way inappropriate or unlawful;
- Contain personal details or private information about any other person, without that other person's prior consent;
- Cause the e-mail web-site to crash or be disrupted.
You are responsible for your interactions with other members of the Scientists in Schools email list. CSIRO reserves the right, but has no obligation, to monitor message disputes between you and other users.
Intellectual property related to e-mail list information and materials
Any information or materials that you post on the e-mail list must not infringe any third party's copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret or other proprietary rights or other intellectual property rights.
You own the copyright in emails and materials you send to the e-mail list or to CSIRO on the assumption that you were the author of the e-mail and materials. CSIRO may want to use any material or information that you send to the Scientists in Schools team or post on the e-mail list, including photographs and testimonials, for use in the Scientists in Schools program, or to promote and support the program, including use and reproduction in CSIRO Education publications (e.g. The Helix and Scientriffic magazines) and for other purposes arising from CSIRO carrying out its statutory functions. You give CSIRO a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to reproduce, communicate, re-publish, edit, adapt or otherwise use your materials and information as we see necessary, including the right to sublicense to others at our discretion. You also give us a licence to deal with your email postings as necessary to perform technical and administrative functions in running the website and e-mail list.
You may also have moral rights, so you consent to your postings being altered, edited or adapted for CSIRO to use them under our licence as we see necessary. You also consent to us not attributing authorship to you. We generally attribute authorship, but that's not always possible and we decide this on a case by case basis.
To promote the benefits of the program, you also grant other participants registered to access the e-mail list with a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide licence to reproduce, communicate, re-publish, edit, adapt or otherwise use your materials and information for educational purposes.
If you don't want your email or material and information to be used in this way, please avoid sending it to the Scientists in Schools email list.
